Best Cruelty Free & Vegan SPF

Sun protection is important all year round, but now that the sun is out and people are hitting the beach it is even more important to protect that skin! I have tried a ton of vegan, cruelty free and natural sunscreens and there are only two that I swear by. While there are plenty of brand options out there, I am picky about consistency and efficacy.

My favorite for facial SPF is the Natural Mineral Sunscreen Face from DermaE. This is my go to skincare brand for my sensitive and breakout prone skin in general, but this sunscreen is holy grail. It is broad spectrum SPF 30, contains zinc oxide, and has a non greasy feel. It does not irritate my eyes and it sits well under makeup as well. I never experience breakouts or irritation from this and I continually repurchase. It also stands up well against sweat in hot conditions.

My favorite for body SPF is Tattoo Shade by Kiss My Face. I like every sunscreen I have tried from this brand, but this one in particular is what I reach for. It is vegan, spreads easily, and smells great as well. Even though this product is geared for “tattooed skin”, I use it everywhere on my body. It stands up well against sweat and is water resistant up to 40 minutes. This is broad spectrum SPF 30 and boasts that it contains antioxidant defenders. I am not sure how much extra protection you actually receive from those antioxidant ingredients, but it does leave my skin feeling healthy and soft. This sunscreen has a fresh, almost fruity scent, so I don’t feel overpowered by the scent.

I have found both of these at local stores, but you can find them online

Vegan Cuts Beauty Subscription Box | Cruelty Free & Vegan | March 2017 Review

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box. This box runs you $23 a month, shipping included.
They promise to deliver 4-7 full and sample size products, 100% cruelty free, mostly natural and organic, and paraben free.
image

The March box featured 6 items, and the total value was $65.

Here are my thoughts on what was inside!

image
Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Lip Balm $4 value
This was one of my favorite items! This lip balm has a squeeze tube and the signature coconut and hibiscus scent but there is no real flavor to this. This stuff works amazing, and I have used it practically every day since getting it. It leaves lips hydrated but not sticky. I will definitely purchase this once I run out!
image
Plantlife “Detox” Therapeutic Mineral Bath Salt $6 value
It is always nice to get a variety in these boxes, and this was a nice addition to the box. I didn’t find anything life changing or amazing about it, but it was a nice relaxing experience. I may in the future see what other kinds of items this brand offers.
image
Hempz Fresh Coconut & Watermelon Herbal Body Moisturizer$7 value
This was another favorite item of this month! This moisturizer smells so fresh and sweet, it is one of my favorite scents of lotions I’ve used. The smell also does stay on the skin well. The consistency of this is really nice and lightweight. It does not feel sticky or thick, but leaves skin soft and shiny. I will probably buy a giant tub of this stuff once I use up this size.
image
Londontown Lakur Nail Polish in “Brill-ant”$16 value
My number one favorite item of this box is this polish. I’ve been wanting to try this brand so this was a great opportunity to do so. I love the super metallic color, I think it is perfect for spring. Application wise this was one of my favorite brushes as it didn’t make a mess, maybe it is just the perfect size and product consistency. This polish also dried extremely fast, which is great for me because I usually fidget and mess it up. This also lasted really well for me, and the first few days were pretty chip resistant.
image
Modicum Skincare Cleanser & Exfoliant$32 value
As I stated in my unboxing video, I was very hesitant to try this product because I am really happy with my current skincare routine and my skin can be pretty reactive. I looked up the ingredients, and the active ingredient in the exfoliant is one that I am unfamiliar with and couldn’t find in my ingredient dictionary. Regardless, I tried both cleanser and exfoliant anyways. The cleanser was alright. The smell of it, like the oil I had before from this same brand, almost smells peppery to me. It isn’t a bad smell but I don’t love it. The exfoliant also didn’t wow me, and I didn’t feel like I had any results after using it that I don’t get from other exfoliants. If I needed a cleanser and exfoliant I might use these, but I feel like for my skin I’ve used much better. On a positive note, the packaging is amazing and looks very sleek. These products may work better for more dry or mature skin, but for my combination skin it just wasn’t a match made in heaven.

Overall I was really happy with this months box, because I got three items that I have gotten a lot of use out of and will repurchase in the future. My favorite is definitely the nail polish, and I highly reccomend it!

Vegan Cuts Beauty Subscription Box – Cruelty Free & Vegan – February 2017 Review

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box. This box runs you $23 a month, shipping included.
They promise to deliver 4-7 full and sample size products, 100% cruelty free, mostly natural and organic, and paraben free.

Here are my thoughts on the February 2017 box!

This months box contained 6 items valued at around $44.

Emani Eye Shadow Trio in Tango $20 value
This is a trio of vegan shadows, and there were multiple color options you could receive. I received Tango, which I was less than stoked about because the three are not shades I would typically use in a look. That aside, I was excited to try this brand as I have not before. The compact is nice, small and sturdy. I like the sleek basic black packaging, and it would be good for travel. Finger swatched, the shades preform beautifully. They don’t feel too chalky, but not too soft so that they crumble. The color pay off is totally lost when using a brush and putting it on the eyes. The best shade of this trio is the burgandy.
image
I attempted multiple times to come up with a way to use this that I would be happy with, and really the best use for this trio is very natural, everyday, minimalistic looks. You are not going to get a high impact look from these shades. I am intrigued about this company though, and I intend to look into other items.

image
The Ariel Co. Lip Scrub $9 value.
Another brand I have never tried! I absolutely love this lip scrub and it was my favorite item in this box. It tastes and smells like cotton candy bubblegum, and works so well! My lips are so soft after using this. I wear a lot of liquid lipsticks, so I have bee. Getting a ton of use out of the scrub. Will definitely purchase from this brand in the future.

image
Oral Essentials Toothpaste $4 value.
This is a sample size flouride-free toothpaste. It claims to have a dead sea salt and oil blend that whitens teeth without harming enamel. This has a very strong mint flavor and definitely feels like its working when I use it. I haven’t been able to notice a whitening affect, but I will purchase this in the future because it leaves my mouth and teeth feeling clean and it has a better texture than many other vegan and natural toothpastes.

image
earthly Body Leave In Treatment$4 value.
This sample spray claims to protect hair color and add shine. It has a very strong smell of sunflower, which I am not a fan of in hair care. I used this a few times, but didn’t really feel I could gauge if my hair was benefitting from it. I didn’t feel any added manageability, but I intend to hang on to this and bring along on some warm weather trips I have coming up to see how it holds up in the sun.

image
Crazy Rumors Chocolate Strawberry Lip Balm $4 value.
I love Crazy Rumors lip balms! They are some of my favorite vegan lip balms out there, so of course I was happy to receive another. These are all moisturizing and every flavor I’ve tried is great.

image
Herbal Transdermal Deep Pore Mineral Toner $3 value.
I am always very skeptical of new skincare items. My skin is very reactive to certain ingredients so I always proceed with caution. This toner has tea tree oil, vitamin c and wintergreen oil. The grapefruit scent comes from fragrance. I use glycolic acid and vitamin a on my skin regularly, so I tried this only on certain areas of my face. This seemed to only irritate my skin. This might work well if you don’t use a lot of active ingredients on your skin, but for me this didn’t do anything positive. I was pretty bummed because the grapefruit scent is nice!

Overall, this is the first box from Vegan Cuts that I wasn’t mostly happy with. Usually there is one product that I don’t like, but in this case there were only two products I was really happy with! The lip scrub and lip balm were the MVPs of this box. I do plan on trying other products from Emani to get a better feel for the brand.

Au Naturale Organic Creme Stick Foundation Review | Cruelty Free & Vegan

image
Au Naturale Cosmetics is a vegan, cruelty free, and clean beauty company. I have previously tried some of their other products and I have been using samples of their creme stick foundation on and off for a while and finally felt compeled to buy the full size and really try it out.
image

First things first, I’ll give you a rundown of what I look for in a foundation and what skin type I am.
Skin Type: combination (mostly oily), breakout prone, ingredient sensitive.
Foundation Requirements: Natural finish, blends easily, moderate buildable coverage, doesn’t aggravate or cause breakouts (non comedogenic).

image
Details:
The Au Naturale creme stick foundation retails for $38 for 9ml. The packaging is your standard stick foundation tube with twist. They have many colors, but I would recommend going slightly darker than you think you need, as they seem to run lighter. I use the shade Marino currently, but will probably go darker for summer. I usually purchase the light medium shades for most brands.

Ingredients are listed as follows:
“Organic Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Organic Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Wax, Organic Lavandula Officinalis (Lavender) Oil, Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca) Root Starch, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Mica.”
image
Benefits listed on site:
“Formulated without gluten, parabens, fillers, animal by-products, synthetic preservatives or toxins, our organic creme foundation is 100% natural, cruelty-free, vegan and made in the USA.”

Application:
I find that this applies best with a foundation brush. I use a flat top kabuki for the most flawless blending. I would recommend using moisturizer and an additional SPF under this as it offers no sun protection. For me, since my skin tends to be oilier, I find the consistency of this product to be perfect. It melts into my skin easily and doesn’t settle in fine lines. I do suspect because of its consistency it would work best over a facial oil if you have dry skin. With a brush I get good coverage that still looks natural. The coverage is buildable, and I would say this is a light to a natural medium coverage. You can also use the foundation to conceal spots. I like to wear it on the natural side so that my freckles are still relatively visible.

Wear:
One of my favorite attributes of this foundation is how it wears. Whether I set with a powder of not it stays all day without wearing off (other than if I wear my glasses over it for long periods of time, I do notice the bridge of my nose wears off but that is typical for me). I like the way the finish looks by the end of the day, and I don’t have any flakes or patches that look uneven like with some stick foundations.

wearing foundation Marino, bronzer & blush on cheeks

How My Skin Reacts:
My skin has actually improved since using this foundation. I find that I have less blemishes in places that foundations can irritate, and my overall skin health is better. I think the integrity of the ingredients is responsible for this. My skin is balanced when I wear this, and I am no longer afraid to use a foundation that contains oils!

Overall very impressed with this foundation, and think it is a great clean alternative to other stick foundations.

Sugarpill Feline Fancy Collection Review (Cruelty Free & Vegan)

image
Sugarpill is a cuter than life cruelty free makeup company. Not all of their products are vegan, but you can search what is vegan easily on their site. This year for a valentines day release, they came out with a collection called Feline Fancy. The collection features a four pan eyeshadow palette & a metallic liquid lipstick. Artwork for the collection is by Brandi Milne, an artist who I very much admire. I had to get my paws (pun intended) on this collection!
image
image
The collection retails for $48 and is currently still available, although it is a limited edition item.
The packaging is so cute on this. It has an outer sleeve that holds everything, and the eyeshdaow palette has a cute double heart mirror.
image

The eye shadow palette comes with four shades.

without flash
The shades are described as followed on their website:
S.W.A.K. – foiled rose petal pink with gold duochrome, Sealed With a Kiss!
WINK – foiled soft baby pink champagne, doubles as an all-over highlighter
TEXT ME – warm matte brown, the perfect transition shade
KISS KISS – vibrant, foiled red

The liquid lipstick is a gorgeous shade that compliments the collection perfectly. The packaging is very adorable and shows a lot of care went into design.

Strange Love liquid lipstick without flash
The color is described as followed on the website:
STRANGE LOVE – Deep metallic oxblood red with sparkle. Creamsicle scented!

Before purchasing this set I had only ever bought 2 lipsticks from Sugarpill. I bought the pretty poison lipsticks, which there is a review on my YouTube for, and was underwhelmed. For this launch I decided to give the company another go. I am so happy I did because the versatility of the palette is amazing.

The eye shadows all work beautifully on the eyes and the face. Blending is easy and the pigmentation is there. My favorite shade from the palette is Kiss Kiss. It is so hard to find good vegan red eye shadows and this shade knocks it out of the park! I also love S.W.A.K. as blush and wink as a highlight. Text Me is the perfect contour shade. I love that I can throw this little palette into my bag and have everything I need. It is rare that I get so much use out of a palette. I have been considering buying another because I use it so much!

The lipstick is also incredible. I cannot count how many people complemented me on it when I wore it. It is opaque and goes on easily. There is no discomfort with wear and the wear time is pretty long. I never get weird crumbles or dryness at the center of my lips like with some others. The color is excellent and the metallic finish is finely milled so there are no chunks of glitter. In love with this formula!

This collection is a strong recommend if you can get it. You can find it here.
